ABSTRACT
Abstract Eccentric, compared to concentric exercise, is proposed involve different neuro‐motor processing strategies and a higher level of mental demand. This study eccentric cycling at matched perceived effort torque for the demand related‐cortical activation patterns. Nineteen men (30 ± 6 years) performed four 5‐min conditions 30 RPM on semi‐recumbent isokinetic cycle ergometer: (1) moderate (23 CR100® scale) without feedback; (2) (3) same average produced in first condition; (4) than condition. The two were randomized. After each condition, was monitored using NASA Task Load Index scale. Changes oxy‐(O 2 Hb) deoxy‐(HHb) hemoglobin during exercise measured over both prefrontal cortices right parietal lobe from 15‐probe layout continuous‐wave NIRS system. Mental significantly (+52%, p = 0.012) when intensity fixed by rather (+70%, < 0.001). For torque‐ or effort‐matched exercises, O Hb increased ( 0.001) left cortices, lobe, HHb decreased left, right, cycling. supports that acute cycling, involves demand, frontoparietal network activation.
