Direct and vicarious experiences of discrimination and rumination among Latinos before and during the beginning of the COVID‐19 pandemic

ABSTRACT
Abstract People from racial/ethnic minority groups can experience discrimination in various ways, including both being the direct target of (directly experienced discrimination) and learning about others' experiences (vicariously discrimination). Additionally, frequency these may change over time as larger societal changes occur. In this retrospective self‐report study, we examined how Latinos' changed during beginning COVID‐19 pandemic, examining vicariously discrimination, real life online. Participants reported significantly less in‐person pandemic relative to before (both vicarious), but no for or vicarious We also rumination, a maladaptive coping strategy thought prolong negative effects discrimination. Rumination was more frequently than general increased pandemic. Importantly, rumination were related mental health outcomes, anxiety, depression, loneliness.
