ABSTRACT
The aquatic bug family Naucoridae currently is organized by a morphology‐based taxonomy and has never been analysed from phylogenetic perspective. Thus, we sequenced two nuclear mitochondrial genes in order to reconstruct relationships among the genera subfamily Cryphocricinae, using maximum likelihood Bayesian inference approaches. In total, 101 species were included analyses (ingroup: 85 of Cryphocricinae). results support polyphyletic Cryphocricinae as conceived. offer revised concept comprising only Cryphocricos Montandon, reinstate Ambrysinae for remaining six previously placed Cryphocricinae. sister Limnocoris Stål (Limnocorinae) while closer African genus Neomacrocoris Montandon. Pelocoris was found be closely related other Ambrysinae; consequently, this herein transferred Naucorinae Ambrysinae.
