ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Many physicians take time out of training and have decreased confidence poor performance ratings on their return. Courses employing multiple educational methods been shown to be effective in easing learners into new clinical roles during transition periods but, date, there is limited evidence for courses support trainees returning practice (RTP). Methods A 2‐day course, named Springboard, was developed, specifically address the needs trainee RTP. It employed a blended, multi‐modal approach learning, including lectures, workshops, case‐based sessions, interactive panel discussions, small group teaching, peer‐led practical advice sessions simulation training. Springboard delivered eight times between 2014 2019 with total 540 doctors attending. We analysed participant pre‐and post‐course questionnaire feedback. Results Reasons taking included parental leave, research, fellowships education leadership, health‐related absence career breaks. Time ranged 3 months 6 years. significant pre/post‐course increase candidates’ self‐reported leadership skills being prepared return demonstrated alongside an appreciation multi‐modal, ‘boot camp’ course by expert faculty networking experience. Discussion Dedicated tailored RTP provide opportunity improving relating many areas non‐clinical as well providing environment sharing experiences. Further work would valuable establish potential this larger scale.
