Non‐tuberculous mycobacteria isolation from presumptive tuberculosis patients in Lambaréné, Gabon

ABSTRACT
The prevalence of clinical cases pulmonary non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) is increasing worldwide. aim this study was to determine the proportion and NTM species isolated from presumptive tuberculosis patients in Lambaréné, Gabon.From January 2018 December 2020, sputum samples TB were analysed at reference laboratory Centre de Recherches Médicales Lambaréné. Two collected per patient, culture performed using Bactec MGIT 960. GenoType Mycobacterium CM/AS used for isolates confirmation differentiation.Among 1363 analysed, 285 (20.9%) Auramin acid fast bacilli (AFB) smear-positive. 137/1363 (10%) samples. most prevalent intracellulare (n = 74; 54%).These results show presence among Gabon, which could potentially complicate diagnosis. This presents a new public health challenge, emphasises need consider planning prevention management control.
