ABSTRACT
Over the past decade there has been a growth in development of pathogen reduction technologies to protect blood supply from emerging pathogens. This proven be difficult for red cells (RBCs). However S-303 system shown effectively inactivate broad spectrum pathogens, while maintaining RBC quality.A paired three-arm study was performed compare vitro quality S-303-treated RBCs with stored at room temperature (RT) duration treatment (18-20 hr) and control 2 6°C. Products were sampled weekly over 42 days storage (n = 10) tested using an array assays measure quality, metabolism, functional variables.During slight loss hemoglobin (Hb < 5 g). Hemolysis, glucose consumption, potassium release similar all groups during storage. had significantly lower lactate concentration pH compared controls. The higher adenosine triphosphate than RT RBCs. There significant 2,3-diphosphoglycerate products, which also observed Flow cytometry analysis demonstrated size, morphology, expression CD47, glycophorin A groups.RBCs treated properties controls within transfusion guidelines.
