ABSTRACT
Multistable mechanical metamaterials are materials that have multiple stable configurations. The geometrical changes caused by the transition of metamaterial from one state to another, could be exploited obtain multifunctional and programmable materials. As stimulus amplitude is varied, a multistable goes through sequence However, this (which we will call deformation sequence) unpredictable if consists identical unit cells. This paper proposes use small variations in cell geometry deterministic for type bistable Based on an analytical model single minimization total strain energy, rigorous theoretical proposed analyze nonlinear mechanics inform designs. able accurately predict stress–strain curves observed finite-element simulations with elastic constitutive model. A matches predicted theory obtained experiments 3D-printed samples. Furthermore, excellent quantitative agreement between once viscoelastic introduced
