ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects Red Bull energy drink on Wingate cycle performance and muscle endurance. Healthy young adults (N = 15, 11 men, 4 women, 21 +/- 5 y old) participated in a crossover which they were randomized supplement with (2 mg/kg body mass caffeine) or isoenergetic, isovolumetric, noncaffeinated placebo, separated by 7 d. Muscle endurance (bench press) assessed maximum number repetitions over 3 sets (separated 1-min rest intervals) at an intensity corresponding 70% baseline 1-repetition maximum. Three 30-s cycling tests (load 0.075 kp/kg mass), 2 min recovery between tests, used assess peak average power output. significantly increased total bench-press (Red 34 9 vs. placebo 32 8, P %%%lt; 0.05) but had no effect 701 124 W 700 132 W, 479 74 471 respectively). upper anaerobic during repeated healthy adults.
