Effects of 1 Versus 2 Games a Week on Physical and Subjective Scores of Subelite Soccer Players

ABSTRACT
The physical-performance profiles of subelite male footballers were monitored during 6 wk a competitive season. same squad players played either 1 (1G, n = 15) or 2 (2G, matches per week. On weeks 0, 3, and 6, 48 h postmatch, completed countermovement jump (CMJ), 10- 20-m sprints, the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test (YYIRT), Recovery-Stress Questionnaire. Both groups undertook weekly training sessions. 2G showed after lower YYIRT (–11% to 3%, 90% CI –15.8% –6.8%; P < .001) CMJ performances (–18.7%, –21.6 –15.9%; .007) higher 10-m (4.4%, 1.8–6.9%; sprints values (4.7%, 2.9% 6.4%; .001). No differences found at 3 (.06 .99). changes over time (.169 .611) no × group interactions (.370 .550) for stress, recovery, Stress Index. In conclusion players’ ability sprint, jump, perform repeated intense exercise was impaired when playing week wk.
