ABSTRACT
World Rowing's decision to support the proposed change from a 2000-m 1500-m regatta course at 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles is anticipated have important implications for athlete preparation and race execution during 2024-2028 quadrennium. This commentary aims provide insight into expected of reduction length heading Games, focusing on training monitoring high-performance rowers, as well tactical, technical, pacing considerations performance. The event duration (estimated be ∼90-120 s across all classes) will lead an ∼5% 15% increase relative contribution anaerobic metabolism. Consequently, adjustment periodization priorities toward higher-intensity interventions may required, especially period immediately prior games. critical-power anaerobic-power-reserve concepts become more useful tools structuring exercise programs, evaluating outcomes, determining suitability through individual physiological profiling. Additionally, adoption constant (flat) strategy, rather than commonly used reverse J-shaped approach, might considered racing over this new distance. Finally, technical aspects, such stroke rate gearing, require optimal performance; however, research clearly required explore effects. Our intention stimulate discussion debate, with provision practical recommendations that aim optimize rowers' performance Games.
