ABSTRACT
Physical activity is beneficial in several clinical situations and recommended for patients with ischemic heart disease, as well those undergoing cardiac surgery. In a randomized controlled trial, 34 underwent coronary artery bypass grafting. A control group (n = 15) submitted to conventional physiotherapy. The intervention 19) received the same protocol plus additional aerobic exercise cycle ergometer. Pulmonary function by spirometry, respiratory muscle strength manovacuometry, functional capacity through 6-minute walking test was assessed before surgery at hospital discharge. There significant reduction pulmonary both groups. In groups, inspiratory maintained while expiratory significantly decreased. Functional (364.5 [324.5 428] vs. 348 [300.7 413.7] meters, P .06), but it decreased (320 [288.5 393.0] 292 [237.0 336.0] .01). difference also found intergroup analyses discharge (P .03).Aerobic applied early on grafting may promote maintenance of capacity, no impact when compared
