ABSTRACT
Using a case study approach, this examined reversals in metamotivational state during golf competition. Five male golfers competed round robin tournament. Following each match, were individually interviewed using modified Metamotivational State Coding Schedule (Potocky, Cook, & O’Connell, 1993). Content analysis techniques used to identify states, state, and the factors affecting them. Individual differences profiles evident; for instance, tournament winner demonstrated most consistent profile across matches. Overall, however, players’ more similarities than differences. Most frequently cited states paratelic telic conformity, attributable contingent event, satiation, frustration factors.
