ABSTRACT
Mature Arabidopsis seeds are enriched in storage proteins and lipids, but lack starch. In the shrunken seed 1 ( sse1 ) mutant, however, starch is favored over lipids as major compound. SSE1 has 26 percent identity with Pex16p Yarrowia lipolytica complements pex16 mutants defective formation of peroxisomes transportation plasma membrane– cell wall–associated proteins. maturing seeds, required for protein oil body biogenesis, both which endoplasmic reticulum–dependent. Starch accumulation suggests that a default deposition pathway.
