Phenylalanine Depletion for the Management of Phenylketonuria: Use of Enzyme Reactors with Immobilized Enzymes

Multitubular enzyme reactors with immobilized phenylalanine ammonia lyase were tested in vitro and vivo for depletion of circulating blood. Sustained reduction was achieved less than 30 minutes. A 50 percent decrease obtained a 2-hour application maintained more 2 days. Similar have therapeutic potential temporary management phenylketonuric patients when their becomes exceedingly high because infection, fever, or pregnancy.
