ABSTRACT The class II bacteriocins pediocin PA-1, from Pediococcus acidilactici , and lactococcin A, Lactococcus lactis subsp. bv. diacetylactis WM4 have a number of features in common. They are produced as precursor peptides containing similar amino-terminal leader sequences with conserved processing site (Gly-Gly at positions −1 −2). Translocation both occurs via dedicated secretory system. Because the strong antilisterial activity its production by lactic acid bacteria strains adapted to dairy environments would considerably extend application industry. In this study, A system was for expression secretion PA-1. vector an in-frame fusion encoding lcnA promoter, leader, mature introduced into L. IL1403. This strain is resistant PA-1 encodes translocation apparatus. resulting secreted bacteriocin antimicrobial approximately 25% that displayed parental pediocin-producing P. 347. noncompetitive indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay PA-1-specific antibodies amino sequencing confirmed being heterologous host.
