ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Although the strong protease activity of Porphyromonas gingivalis appears to be an important virulence property these organisms, little information is currently available regarding regulation expression multiple genes. Utilizing lacZ reporter gene strategy, environmental factors which regulate Arg-gingipain rgpA and prtT were investigated. These two genes are reciprocally regulated since retarded growth (iron depletion nutrient limitation) appeared upregulate while down-regulating expression. However, inactivation major resulted in increased transcription tpr decreasing Lys-gingipain kgp as detected by Northern blot analysis. By contrast, did not significantly affect but moderately decreased mRNA levels. results indicate that P. coordinately suggest some enzymes play specific roles physiology and/or organisms.
