ABSTRACT
The number of rRNA genes in Mycobacterium bovis BCG was examined by Southern hybridization end-labeled 5S, 16S, and 23S rRNAs with BamHI, PstI, SalI digests M. DNA. Each RNA probe gave only one radioactive band three kinds DNA digest. These results suggest that chromosomes may carry a minimum set genes. Hybridization randomly labeled SalI, BglII, PvuII from the same organism supported these conclusions. 6.4-kilobase-pair fragment containing entire structural for both 16S cloned into pBR322. characterized restriction endonuclease mapping, DNA-RNA analysis, R-loop technique. indicated fragments contained following order: 23S, 5S No tRNA gene detected spacer region between genes, but found downstream
