ABSTRACT
The objective of this prospective observational study carried out at China-Uganda Friendship Hospital-Naguru in Kampala, Uganda, was to determine the performance GeneXpert MTB/RIF Ultra (Xpert Ultra) molecular testing on saliva for active tuberculosis (TB) disease among consecutive adults undergoing TB diagnostic evaluation who were Xpert positive sputum. We calculated sensitivity comparison a composite reference standard Mycobacterium liquid and solid cultures two spot sputum specimens. single sample had 90% (95% confidence interval [CI], 81 95%) relative culture-based standard, similar 87% CI, 77 94%) fluorescence microscopy (FM) acid-fast bacilli smears. salivary 24% lower CI difference, 2 48%;
