ABSTRACT
Enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) is one of the main pathogens causing hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) outbreaks in Asian children under 5 years age. In severe cases, it can cause neurological complications be life-threatening. this study, 200 newly sequenced EV-A71 whole-genome sequences were combined with 772 from GenBank for large-scale analysis to investigate global epidemiology, phylogeny, Bayesian phylodynamic characteristics. Based on phylogenetic 3Dpol region, six new evolutionary lineages (lineages B, J, K, O, P, Q) found number was expanded 11 17. Temporal dynamics recombination breakpoint analyses based genotype C revealed that nonstructural protein-coding regions, including 3Dpol, an important reason emergence lineages. The epidemic Asia-Pacific region complex, phylogeographic Vietnam played a key role spread subgenotypes B5 C4. origin subgenotype C4 China East China, which closely related prevalence south throughout China. Selection pressure that, addition VP1 amino acid residues VP1-98 VP1-145, are associated pathogenicity, VP1-184 VP1-249 also positively selected, their functions still need determined by biology immunology. This study aimed provide solid theoretical basis EV-A71-related surveillance prevention, antiviral research, vaccine development through comprehensive analysis. IMPORTANCE most HFMD outbreaks; however, studies genomic epidemiology currently lacking. determined. Combining these database, transmission characteristics analyzed. Six identified study. We results provided development.
