ABSTRACT
To determine protein and activity levels of matrix metalloproteinases 1 3 (MMP-1 MMP-3) in synovial fluid patients with knee joint injury, primary osteoarthritis, acute pyrophosphate arthritis (pseudogout).Measurements were done on obtained a cross sectional study cases injury (n = 283), osteoarthritis 105), pseudogout 65), healthy controls 35). Activity MMP-1 MMP-3 alpha(2) macroglobulin complexes was measured using specific low molecular weight fluorogenic substrates. ProMMP-1, proMMP-3, TIMP-1 (tissue inhibitor metalloproteinase 1) quantified by immunoassay.Mean proMMP-1, increased compared controls. groups over control levels, whereas only the group. The increase coincided decrease group.Patients have persistent proMMP-1 proMMP-3 an activated MMPs, which are not inhibited TIMP. differences activation inhibition patterns between consistent disease MMP and/or pathology.
