ABSTRACT
<b>Objective:</b> To detect antibodies to recombinant vacuolating cytotoxin (r-VacA) of <i>Helicobacter pylori</i> in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from patients with Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS). <b>Methods:</b> CSF samples 13 GBS (electrophysiologically classified as eight acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (AIDP), four motor axonal neuropathy (AMAN), and one unexcitable nerve conduction) disease control were studied. The r-VacA protein was separated by SDS/PAGE, Western blot analysis carried out. <b>Results:</b> Six the had a specific IgG antibody VacA <i>H pylori</i>, which confirmed absorption experiments using r-VacA. Every patient positive anti-r-VacA AIDP. <b>Conclusion:</b> sequence homology previously found between human (Na++K+)-ATPase A subunit suggests that involve ion channels abaxonal Schwann cell plasmalemma resulting demyelination some GBS.
