ABSTRACT
Objective To conduct a landscape assessment of public knowledge cardiovascular disease risk factors and acute myocardial infarction symptoms, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) automated external defibrillator (AED) awareness training in three underserved communities Brazil. Methods A cross-sectional, population-based survey non-institutionalised adults age 30 or greater was conducted municipalities Eastern Data were analysed as survey-weighted percentages the sampled populations. Results 3035 surveys completed. Overall, one-third respondents unable to identify at least one factor 25% symptom. minority had received CPR able an AED. Low levels education low socioeconomic status consistent predictors lower factors, coronary syndrome symptoms AED use. Conclusions In Brazil, overall well appropriate use low. Our findings indicate need for interventions improve response events Brazil first step towards improving health outcomes this population. Significant heterogeneity seen across sites strata indicates appropriately target such interventions.
