ABSTRACT
The effect of three amoxycillin treatment regimens on purulent secretions patients with bronchiectasis has been studied. On the basis information recorded a diary card were divided into groups, according to usual nature their secretions: seven who produced mucoid sputum, which occasionally became purulent; whose usually mucopurulent but and 19 persistently purulent. Treatment capsules in dosage 250 mg times day resulted clearance group when they treated for clinical exacerbation. sputum remained clear these long periods before further exacerbation (median 6 1/2, range 1-11 months). mucopurulent-purulent also responded this purulence returned more rapidly 9, 4-31 days). Only (17%) showed macroscopic response dosage, whereas (60%) 12 received higher (3 g sachets twice day) responded. Among failures, some nebulised amoxycillin, suggesting that levels are required patients. Macroscopic was finally achieved most not always predictable from results culture. Clearance by antibiotics identified patients, using score. Improvements well being symptoms noticed even though appeared be clinically stable treatment.
