Retrospective study of the effect of intra‐articular treatment of osteoarthritis of the distal tarsal joints in 51 horses

ABSTRACT
Osteoarthritis of the distal tarsal joints, affecting centrodistal and tarsometatarsal is a common cause hindlimb lameness in horses. This paper describes outcome intra-articular treatment 51 horses with condition either methylprednisolone acetate (mpa) or triamcinolone acetonide (tr), without hyaluronic acid (ha). The was assessed terms changes horses' grade lameness. Follow-up information obtained from owners by means telephone questionnaire. Horses treated once mpa tr, ha, improved after median 56 days (P<0.0001), there no significant difference between tr. There further improvement twice. In which diffuse increase uptake radiopharmaceutical identified scintigraphy, tended to improve (P=0.032), whereas focal, it did not. At follow-up 13 34 were reported have had positive outcome, but other 21 been negative.
