ABSTRACT
The ecological and societal impacts of plastics production, use, waste are a complex global challenge. Management strategies to mitigate the plastics, such as recycling, waste-to-energy, replacement with alternative materials have their own. Achieving long-term sustainability use therefore requires considering externalized management strategies. Here, we assessed literature on most common plastic identify in relation sustainable development goals. We reviewed bans, levies, taxes; products; recycling; waste-to-energy; recovery; extended producer responsibility. Our analysis identified total 259 measured mitigation strategies, from 113 papers. Ninety-three were negative, 104 positive, 11 neutral, 51 depended context implementation. Consideration both is necessary avoid perverse outcomes pollution efforts.
