ABSTRACT
We developed new perspectives to identify important questions and propose approaches for future research on marine food web lipids. They were related (i) structure function of lipids, (ii) lipid changes during critical life phases, (iii) trophic marker (iv) potential impact climate change. The first addresses the role lipids in membranes, storage buoyancy with following key question: How are properties membranes deposits affected by various types lipids? second deals importance reproduction, development, resting phases different growth dormancy. third relates which an tool follow energy transfer through web. central question is how can fatty acids be used quantify relationships? With fourth, hypotheses presented effects global warming, may result reduction or change abundance large, lipid-rich copepods polar oceans, thereby strongly affecting higher levels. will dynamics respond ocean at high latitudes?
