ABSTRACT
Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analysis was used to determine the degree of intra- and inter-specific genetic variation in genus Nicotiana. Forty-six lines cultivated tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) seven wild Nicotiana species, including N. sylvestris, tomentosiformis, otophora, glutinosa, suaveolens, rustica, longiflora, were analyzed, using at least eight different oligonucleotide primer combinations capable detecting a minimum 50 polymorphic bands per pair. The amount present among (N. tabacum) limited, as evidenced by high similarity AFLP profiles cultivars collected worldwide. Six major clusters found within that primarily based upon geographic origin manufacturing quality traits. A greater exists species than forms. Pairwise comparisons show can be one three proposed progenitor (i.e., otophora). This observation provides additional support for these contributing tabacum.
