ABSTRACT
This work reports a wide color gamut backlight for liquid crystal display (LCD) utilizing three-band white light-emitting diodes (LED). The LED was fabricated by combining blue chip with β-sialon:Eu (green) and CaAlSiN3:Eu (red) phosphors. 2-phosphor-converted shows discrete spectrum distinct separation of red, green, primary colors due to narrow asymmetric emission band the green phosphor. By applying typical filters LCDs color-matching functions, 91.9% National Television Standard Committee standard is attained, compared 71.6% conventional two-band LED.
