ABSTRACT
The biological prototyping revolution is in motion, and new tools are needed to empower HCI researchers, designers, makers, bio-enthusiasts experiment with live organisms. We present OpenLH, a liquid handling system that empowers users conduct accurate repetitive experiments biology sterile, open, affordable way. OpenLH integrates commercially available robotic arm custom 3D printed parts, modified pipette, visual block-based programming interface. as commercial handlers, capable of tasks micro-scale accuracy, easy operate, supports multi-materials including biomaterials, microorganisms cell cultures. describe the system's technical implementation two interfaces. demonstrate impact for community use cases include experimentation non-traditional fields: design using pigment-expressing E.coli, beer brewing serial dilution home context.
