ABSTRACT
Research in the Internet of Things (IoT) conceives a world where everyday objects are connected to and exchange, store, process, collect data from surrounding environment. IoT devices becoming essential for supporting delivery enable electronic services, but they not sufficient most cases host application services directly due their intrinsic resource constraints. Fog Computing (FC) can be suitable paradigm overcome these limitations, as it coexist cooperate with centralized Cloud systems extends latter toward network edge. In this way, is possible distribute resources computing, storage, networking along Cloud-to-Things continuum. As such, FC brings all benefits (CC) closer end (user) devices. This article presents survey on employment support services. The principles literature characterizing described, highlighting six domains that may benefit use paradigm. extension towards edge also creates new challenges have an impact existing approaches employed Cloud-based deployments. directions being adopted by community highlighted, indication which likely greatest impact. An overview software hardware platforms provided, standardisation efforts area initiated OpenFog Consortium (OFC).
