ABSTRACT
Synchronous video tape fluoroscopy and manometry of the esophagus was performed in 11 subjects (seven men four women; mean age, 49 years). Four had normal seven abnormal esophageal motility (diffuse spasm, n = 4; nonspecific disorder, 3) that shown by previous manometry. A digital timer appeared on recording marked manometric tracing synchronously. Alternate 5-mL 10-mL barium boluses were recorded for a total 10 swallows per patient. Video examinations reviewed prospectively, status primary peristalsis presence severity tertiary activity noted. 98 (58 normal, 40 abnormal) correlated, 96% agreement found assessing peristalsis. Overall results fluoroscopic each subject during all showed complete with those manometry; segregating into groups five 92% concordance. Severe invariably seen at fluoroscopy.
