CT Features of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Patients with Acute Abdominal Pain: Emphasis on Ischemic Bowel Disease

ABSTRACT
To evaluate the computed tomographic (CT) features of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in patients with acute abdominal pain. Special emphasis was placed on analysis ischemic bowel disease.The authors retrospectively reviewed images from 39 CT examinations performed 33 SLE and Images were evaluated for wall changes, mesenteric fluid collection, retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy, peritoneal enhancement, hepatomegaly as well changes other organs. Ischemic disease diagnosed if at least three following signs seen: thickening, target sign, dilatation intestinal segments, engorgement vessels, increased attenuation fat.Thirty-one (79%) had findings diagnostic disease, including symmetric thickening (n = 29), sign 26), vascular haziness 31). In 24 cases, multifocal, variable length, did not appear to be confined a single territory.The most common finding pain is disease. useful detecting primary cause gastrointestinal symptoms, planning treatment, monitoring infarction or perforation.
