ABSTRACT
To test the hypothesis that growth retardation in nonanion gap acidosis may be associated with impairment of hormone (GH) secretory patterns, we examined GH secretion rats made acidotic ammonium chloride ingestion. Considerable was demonstrated pair-fed and after 1 wk ingestion compared control. With stable metabolic sustained on 8th day experiment, pulsatile evaluated by blood samples drawn every 10 min for 6 h. Using deconvolution analysis to quantitate vivo rates, found significant inhibition rats. Changes amplitude pulses mean mass correlated changes body weight. These studies showed chronic causes impairment, reduced food efficiency, amplitude-specific GH. We propose this axis suppression, whether mediated decreased nutrients or not, contributes significantly failure children renal tubular acidosis. Because a similar degree seen rats, infer insufficient calorie intake contribute disruption normal patterns. were specific, because different from controls they no change either half-life circulation pulse frequency. Such observations offer rationale more detailed clinical investigations into impact physiological regulation humans.
