ABSTRACT
A mathematical model of the acute cardiovascular response to isocapnic hypoxia is presented. It includes a pulsating heart, systemic and pulmonary circulation, separate description vascular bed in organs with higher metabolic need, local effect O 2 on these organs. Moreover, also action several reflex regulatory mechanisms: peripheral chemoreceptors, lung stretch receptors, arterial baroreceptors, hypoxic central nervous system. All parameters are given accordance physiological literature. The simulated overall deep (28 mmHg) agrees experimental data quite well, showing biphasic pattern. early phase (8–10 s), caused by activation exhibits moderate increase mean pressure, decrease heart rate, constant cardiac output, redistribution blood flow need at expense other later (20 s) characterized receptors system response. During this phase, output rate together, restored normal levels lower need. may be used gain deeper understanding role each mechanism hypoxia.
