ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to analyze the effects chronic administration β 2 -agonist clenbuterol (1.5 mg · kg −1 day for 4 wk in drinking water) on respiratory (diaphragm and parasternal intercostal) hindlimb (tibialis soleus) muscles young rats during postnatal development (21 49 days). treatment resulted very little stimulation muscle growth. Significant slow-to-fast transitions expression myosin heavy chain isoforms significant increases myofibrillar ATPase activity were found diaphragm soleus, whereas tibialis anterior intercostal did not show any fiber-type alteration. Decrease oxidative enzyme activities increase glycolytic also observed. It is concluded that growth age dependent only detectable adult rats, transformation present weaning particularly evident soleus diaphragm. caused by might lead an enhancement contractile performance a reduced resistance fatigue.
