ABSTRACT
A single intramammary infusion of recombinant bovine interleukin-8 (IL-8) at 50 μ g/quarter/head, but not 10 induced clinical mastitis in three four cows during the dry-off period, resulting an elevated rectal temperature, redness and swelling mammary gland, extensive polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMNL) infiltration, milk clot formation from 1 to 28 days post (PI). In secretions mastitic glands, high levels IL-8 were sustained 8 hours PI, peaking 1–3 PI. The leukocyte-derived elastase inflammatory 22 23 kDa lactoferrin derived peptides (LDP) also increased glands. addition experimentally mastitis, glands cattle with spontaneous Staphylococcus aureus dry-period displayed formations significant increases their PMNL counts, elastase, LDP, IL-8, compared those uninfected These results suggest that after has elicited responses, it induces prolonged secretion long-lasting IL-8-induced reactions are involved pathogenesis S. mastitis.
