ABSTRACT
Introduction. Sarcopenia is a geriatric syndrome associated with impairment of muscle function, metabolism, and cognition in older women. Recent studies have shown relationship between changes mass the cardiovascular system. However, this has not been fully elucidated. Methods. One hundred thirty community-dwelling Brazilian women (65.4 ± 6.3 years) were recruited to participate study. Data on body composition (via bioelectrical impedance measurements), parameters (using an automatic noninvasive monitor), function 3-meter gait speed test) measured. Results. Sarcopenic (n = 43) presented higher levels pulse pressure (PP) (60.3 2.6 mmHg) lower (0.5 0.0 m/s) compared nonsarcopenic subjects 87) (53.7 1.5 mmHg; 0.9 (P < 0.05). Linear regression analysis demonstrated significantly negative association skeletal index (SMI) PP (β -226, P Furthermore, sarcopenic showed 3.1-fold increased risk having (IC 1.323-7.506) Conclusion. due subjects.
