ABSTRACT
The secreted aspartic proteases (Saps) are among the most studied virulence determinants in Candida albicans. These proteins translated as pre-pro-enzymes consisting of a signal sequence followed by propeptide and mature enzyme. propeptides proteinases important for correct processing, folding/secretion In this study, DNA sequences C. albicans Saps were screened microsatellite was identified SAP8 region. genetic variability repetitive region Sap8 determined 108 independent strains isolated from different types infection: oral infection (OI), commensal (OC), vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), bloodstream infections (BSI). Nine processing whose frequencies varied with type infection. OC presented highest gene diversity while OI lowest. contribution to mucosal systemic has been demonstrated recently implicated cleavage signalling glycoprotein that leads Cek1-MAPK pathway activation. This work is first identify variable protease brings new insights into Sap8.
