ABSTRACT
The effects of biological variations on platelet counts were investigated in 694 healthy subjects aged 18 to 60 years living three cities including Chengdu (Sichuan Province), Suzhou (Jiangsu Province) and Harbin (Heilongjang China. Platelet significantly lower (52-202 x 10(9)/L) (60-259 than (154-348 (p <0.0001), but the mean volume (MPV) determined concurrently was negatively correlated with count, MPV values higher (11.8-15.6 fl) (10.9-15.8 (9.5 approximately 12.9 < 0.0001). summer (73-289 winter (11.2-14.7 <0.05) Chengdu. associated immunoglobulin (PA-IgG) revealed be low count group (<150 10(9)/L, 13.5 +/- 7.1 ng/10(7) PLT) normal (> or =150 8.3 2.7 <0.0001). Similar results observed for reticulated ratio, which (19.5 7.1%) (11.6 2.7%) <0.01). bleeding time showed a longer (8.6 2.3 min) (6.0 1.2 min)(p With regard lipids counts, HDL (1.60 0.76 mmol/L) (1.23 0.31 <0.01); no significant differences cholesterol triglycerides between groups >0.05) recorded. These findings suggest that could greatly influenced by such as geographical, seasonal, lipid variations.
