ABSTRACT
Animal models of cardiovascular pathology contribute towards understanding and treatment a broad range conditions. Specifically in the context acute myocardial infarction (AMI), rat have been commonly used studies pathogenesis, investigation novel therapies, although there has often difficulty translating experimental findings to clinical benefit. However, recent years seen two important changes our approaches AMI. First, is increasing recognition that pathophysiology human AMI process occurring at many levels, not just within epicardial coronary artery, but also microvasculature myocardium. Second, contemporary treatments are shifting away from thrombolytic dissolution thrombus direct mechanical using angioplasty stents. These implications for relevance these animal models. The following discussion therefore reviews examines current AMI, places them context, discusses their advantages limitations, outlines likely future developments, providing an overview place
