Speech Intelligibility Enhancement After Maxillary Denture Treatment and Its Impact on Quality of Life

ABSTRACT
Tooth loss and its prosthetic rehabilitation significantly affect speech intelligibility. However, little is known about the influence of deficiencies on oral health-related quality life (OHRQoL). The aim this study was to investigate whether intelligibility enhancement through influences OHRQoL in patients wearing complete maxillary dentures. Speech by means an automatic recognition system (ASR) prospectively evaluated compared with subjectively assessed Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) scores.Speech recorded 28 edentulous 1 week prior fabrication new dentures 6 months thereafter. computed based word accuracy (WA) ASR a matched control group. One before after rehabilitation, themselves for OHRQoL.Speech improved months. Subjects reported higher No significant correlation found between OHIP sum score or subscales WA.Speech achieved might not be forefront patients' perception their life. For improvement dentures, food intake mastication as well freedom from pain play more prominent role.
