ABSTRACT
Percutaneous retrograde nontransseptal balloon mitral valvuloplasty is a new technique developed in our institution for opening stenotic valve. This based on new, externally steerable cardiac catheter that enters the left atrium retrogradely via ventricle. The was used 86 consecutive patients (18 men and 68 women; mean age, 51 +/- 11 years). Dilatation of valve achieved 85 patients. After procedure, area increased from 0.92 0.22 to 2.14 0.54 cm2 transmitral gradient decreased 16 6 5 2 mm Hg. Major complications, such as performation, embolic events, or death, were not encountered. Severe regurgitation (greater than 2+) three (3.5%). In two (2.4%), there major injury femoral artery. The maintenance initial improvement similar found studies transseptal techniques. restenosis rate during 2-year follow-up 15.4%.The immediate long-term findings this study indicate percutaneous an effective safe procedure with acceptable complication rate. Moreover, has advantage it does involve puncture dilatation interatrial septum, although may occasionally lead arterial damage. Further will show whether really be considered alternative method choice valvuloplasty.
