ABSTRACT
Distribution of blood pressure (as per US Joint National Committee VI classification and staging criteria) plus awareness, treatment, control hypertension were studied in a representative Spanish population sample 2021 persons (age range, 35 to 64 years). Pressure was determined accordance with World Health Organization guidelines. A total 45.1% subjects hypertensive (>/=140/>/=90 mm Hg or undergoing drug therapy); 12% had isolated systolic hypertension, 8.7% diastolic hypertension. Pulse 48.7 Hg. Heart rate 81.4 bpm untreated hypertensives 78.9 normotensives (P<0.05). substantial proportion the community burden attributable stage 1 (28.3% subjects), most frequent category high-normal group (17% subjects). percentage breakdown showed that among hypertensives, 44.5% aware their condition; these, 71.9% therapy, those being treated, only 15.5% controlled (5% hypertensives).
