ABSTRACT
Objective— The purpose of this study was to assess whether increasing serum uric acid (UA) levels are related cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, all-cause and incident (fatal nonfatal) myocardial infarction (MI) in men from the general population taking into account C-reactive protein (CRP), a sensitive marker systemic inflammation. Methods Results— based on 3604 (45 74 years age) who participated 1 3 MONICA Augsburg surveys between 1984 1995. All participants were prospectively followed within framework Cooperative Health Research Region (KORA). Up December 31, 2002, there occurred 809 total deaths, 359 CVD 297 MIs. In Cox model, comparing extreme quartiles UA distribution, hazard ratio for mortality 1.44 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.04 2.0), it 1.40 CI 1.13 1.74) after adjustment conventional risk factors, CRP, diuretic intake. However, not associated with MI multivariable adjustment. Conclusions— High independently as well but middle-aged population.
