ABSTRACT
Past studies have clearly established that matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) contribute to adverse myocardial remodeling with ischemia and reperfusion. However, these measured MMP levels in extracted samples, therefore whether what degree actual changes interstitial activity occur within the human myocardium context of ischemia/reperfusion remained unknown. The present study directly quantified patients (n=14) undergoing elective cardiac surgery during steady-state conditions, as well following an obligatory period arrest reperfusion achieved by cardiopulmonary bypass. Interstitial was continuously monitored using a validated fluorogenic substrate, microdialysis system placed myocardium, in-line fluorescent detection system. activity, emission, reached stable steady state level 10 minutes after deployment During initiation bypass, increased 20% from baseline values (P<0.05), then rapidly fell longer periods restoration blood flow separation over 30% (P<0.05).The demonstrated proteolytic exists interstitium is dynamic process under conditions such
