ABSTRACT
Background: When compared to other racial groups, African American women (AAW) reach menopause at an earlier age and are increase risk for CVD endothelial health complications. A known intervention the treatment of both menopausal changes is aerobic exercise training (AEXT). The purpose this study was compare effects AEXT on function between pre- post- AAW. Methods: Sedentary, non-smoking AAW not hormone replacement therapy free completed AEXT. Participants exercised 65% their VO2max 40 min, 3 days/wk, 6 months. flow-mediated dilation (FMD) testing blood sample collection. Endothelial microparticles from plasma samples were analyzed by labeling with late stage apoptotic antibodies CD31+/CD42b- early phase dysfunction activation CD62E+ quantified using flow cytometry. Results: No difference in FMD found groups before (7.11±1.2 vs. 7.73±0.8 %) or after (10.38±0.2 9.88±0.6 Both 10.38±0.2 %, p≤0.005) (7.73±0.8 p≤0.043) significantly increased EMPs did differ post-menopausal (4.52±0.9 2.9±0.4 events/μL) (2.1±0.4 2.31±0.5e vents/μL) levels decreased pre-menopausal 2.1±0.4 events/μL, p≤0.015) EMPS different (44±8.5 42.5±9 (26.64±8.4 19.79±3.2 26.6±8.4 p≤0.034) (42.5±9 19.8±3.2 p≤0.008) had lower Discussion: terms vascular showed improvements Our findings suggest has significant regardless being a post-menopausal.
