ABSTRACT
Lacunar infarcts are usually regarded as benign stroke, but population-based studies required to assess the exact place of this stroke subtype in cerebrovascular pathology. We evaluated trends incidence rates, risk factor profiles, and survival rates symptomatic lacunar from a prospective registry 1989 2006.We recorded 2536 ischemic strokes. Among these, 715 (28%) were (354 men 361 women). From 2006, we observed significant rise 2 sexes considered together (relative risk, 1.02; 95% CI, 1.005 1.035; P=0.007), whereas variation was not either or women when separately. Incidence significantly increased young patients under 65 years old 1.049; 1.0175 1.0817; P=0.002). Concerning distribution factors, differed nonlacunar only with regard lower prevalence history atrial fibrillation former (P<0.001). For infarcts, 96% at 1 month (95% 0.94 0.97), 86% year 0.83 0.89), 78% 0.75 0.81) higher than those for (hazard ratio, 2.05; 1.70 2.47; P<0.001).Our results suggest increase relatively good short-term prognosis terms survival. The association among hypertension, diabetes mellitus, no stronger between these factors stroke.
