ABSTRACT
Measurement of total respiratory resistance by the method of forced oscillations is practical in children too young to cooperate in plethysmography or in placing an esophageal balloon. In normal children, results obtained by forced oscillations are similar to those obtained by more cumbersome techniques. This technique, done quickly and easily with a portable apparatus, is especially suitable for serial assessments of acute obstructive lung disease and for use outside the pulmonary function laboratory.
