ABSTRACT
Recent studies suggest that baseline tuberculous sputum comprises a mixture of routinely culturable and differentially tubercle bacteria (DCTB). The latter seems to be drug tolerant dependent on resuscitation-promoting factors (Rpfs). To further explore this, we assessed from patients with tuberculosis for DCTB studied the impact exogenous culture filtrate (CF) supplementation ex vivo.Sputum samples adults HIV-1 no were used most probable number (MPN) assays supplemented CF Rpf-deficient CF, detect CF-dependent Rpf-independent DCTB, respectively. In 110 individuals, 19.1% harbored DCTB. Furthermore, 11.8% yielded In addition, 53.6% displayed both 1.8% carried CF-independent 13.6% had Sputum individuals without higher CF-supplemented MPN counts compared counterparts HIV-1. CD4 greater than 200 cells/mm3 participants less cells/mm3. allowed detection mycobacteria in 34 solid media. Additionally, use enhanced smear-negative individuals. These observations demonstrate novel population reveal reduced host immunity is associated lower prevalence CF-responsive bacteria. Quantification standard TB diagnosis would beneficial because these organisms provide putative biomarker monitor treatment response risk disease recurrence.
