Notes on the Unique-Headed Bugs of New Caledonia (Hemiptera: Enicocephalidae)

ABSTRACT
Representatives of the family Enicocephalidae are living fossils order Heteroptera because their evolutionarily conserved morphology. Their taxonomy and systematics mostly problematic due to high similarity in exoskeletal characters relatively little data regarding multiple taxa. During examination soil leaf-litter samples collected during a land snail survey New Caledonia, specimens enicocephalid true bugs were found. The resulted discovery first known male representative endemic Monteithostolus caledonicus Štys, 1982, along with further records for species second occurrence Systelloderes loebli Štys Baňař, 2007, only macropterous, unique-headed bug archipelago. Diagnoses, notes, distribution discussed presented an updated key Caledonian fauna.
